3 days to kill is a French / American thriller written by Luc Besson and directed by McG.
The film stars Kevin Costner as Ethan Renner a CIA operative who is given retirement when it's discovered he is suffering from a form of brain cancer that has spread, the illness was only discovered when Renner becomes I'll when casing a dangerous German terrorist by the name of Wolf (Richard Sammel) and his second in command Albino (Tómas Lemarquis) but before he can complete his mission Renner passes out. Renner returns to France to try and spend some time with his estranged wife (Connie Nielsen) and there teenage daughter (Hailee Steinfeld) after years of never being there for his family and knowing he's only got 3 months to live Ethan is desperate to right some of the wrongs he has done for the sake of the CIA. Just as Ethan is making inroads with his daughter he is approached by a top level CIA agent Vivi (Amber Heard) who says she can extend Ethan's life a little with the aid of a revolutionary new drug but there is a catch Ethan has to hunt down and kill THE WOLF & ALBINO. |
The prospect of spending some extra time with his daughter proves too much for than to resist and he agrees to the terms. The movie builds up nicely to a thrilling climax, the film has been slated by the critics although I feel the criticism is harsh as I really enjoyed this movie, Costner & Steinfeld are excellent as Renner and Zooey's relationship is superbly played out, Amber Heard is good in a bad way in the movie as her acting isn't the best but she where's some really tight costumes that make her acting skills almost irrelevant, like most Luc Besson movies the action scenes are a dramatic as they are gruesome plus it's not one of these movies where the main characters is having to rescue his family from kidnappers that we see all the time now in these thriller genres. Overall this movie isn't going to clear the board at the Oscars but it's certainly well worth a watch in my opinion it’s a movie most people will love or hate but either way this is nowhere near as bad as some of Costner’s other movies.
