Arena mode by Blake Northcott certainly isn't for the children, it's a violent and twisted superhero story that you won't have seen or read the likes of before.
The year is 2041 war rages in the world, Disease and a deepening poverty is common place but in the face of adversity there is hope and that hope is simply called the Arena Mode a sport come game show where the winner becomes extremely rich to the tune of $10 billion. Super humans live amongst us on earth in 2041 although they are treated with a degree of skepticism, Cameron Frost a former sword fighting champion is the creator of Arena mode a tournament where thirteen super humans compete for a huge prize that can only be won by one. Matthew "Mox" Moxton is a geek by his own admission who loves comics and other geeky stuff but one day Mox blacks out and while he’s in hospital they discover a tumor that if untreated is likely to end his life unless he has surgery but surgery will cost a whopping €20m. Mox with the aid of his best friend Gavin & sister Peyton who incidentally Mox harbor’s secret feelings for who runs the excelsior comic store manages to convince Frost that he's a superhero and gains entry in to the tournament that could prove costly as a mere human with no special powers amongst 12 superhero's fighting it out in the heart of sealed off Manhattan to be crowned the winner, Mox soon realizes that there is nothing in the rules that say there can't be alliances and "Mox" soon forms an alliance with Kenneth AKA “The living eye” in order to stay in the completion just long enough to claim one of the prizes for finishing in the top 4 that will cover the cost of his life saving surgery. Mox soon discover that it's not going to be that easy especially for a human amongst superheroes and if that's not bad enough Cameron Frost has other ideas.
Overall Arena mode is a bit of a hybrid story crossing Hunger games with Marvels comics but that's not taking away from Arena mode as it certainly keeps you reading more just to find out what twists and turns will come next. If you’re a fan of comics then I would certainly suggest that you give Arena mode a try as I am sure that you won't be disappointed and will make you what to read more in the Arena Mode series.
