The Last Girl (Dominion Trilogy)The last Girl by Joe Hart is futuristic tale of survival and one girls battle against the authority that has lied to her all her life.
Zoey is a 20 year old woman who's been living inside a mysterious research facility for women for as long as she can remember, Since she was a baby Zoey has been brought up at the ARC and being educated by NOA's (National Obstetric Alliance) about the world now and after the devastating plague that followed a world event called "The Dearth" a catastrophic event that saw the Birth rate of girls in the world has suddenly decline to such a level that no factual female babies are being born any more, women are now hunted and sold on the black market like meat to highest bidder as any woman that gives birth to a female baby would earn the owner rices beyond there wildest dreams. At the age of 21 all the women in the ARC told that they will be inducted into the program which means they will be reunited with there families so they can live out there lives in a safer sanctuary like have or so Zoey and the others thought. Life in the ARC frustrates Zoey as she struggles with the NOA's rules she starts to cause ripples with the other woman and soon becomes a target for two other companions even her Cleric Simon struggle to protect her. |
By Joe HartZoey has always doubted what the woman are being told inside the ARC and as she nears her own 21st birthday and induction Zoey devises a plan to escape and free the other woman in the process but like most things in Zoey's life things don't turn out like she plans and she is forced to flee the ARC on her own and in the process discovers some horrors about what's actually happening at the ARC. Zoey's forced into hiding as NOA searches the countryside in an attempt to bring her back to the ARC. Will she get caught? You'll have to read it for yourself to find out! This is a very good book snd the story is very thought provoking in fact I have read anything like this before, the reader is taken on a journey of incredible highs and lows by Hart as sets a dystopian future like. Hart does a fantastic job of making the reader try to puzzle together a mental picture of the landscape outside the ARC. As mentioned at the beginning this is the first book in a trilogy so don't expect everything to be revealed as Hart has set the scene for the future books. It's also worth sticking with this story as I found the first part slow to begin then the story moves up a notch and just gets better and better resulting in a pulsating climax.
