One to Watch (Raheem Sterling)
In part 2 of future stars we take a look at the player that seems to be exciting new Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers currently Raheem Sterling or Raheem Shaquille Sterling to give him his full title.
Raheem is an English - Jamaican footballer who plays for Liverpool although the Merseysider's can't take the credit for this 17 year olds early development. Sometime from Sterling being born in 1994 in Kingston
Jamaica to arriving in England at the tender age of 5 Raheem played youth football for London side West Ham upto 2003, he then signed for London rivals QPR at the age of ten where he started to get noticed, so much so that at aged fourteen Raheem appeared on the front cover of the Jamaican newspaper The Gleaner who hailed his progress and reported that he was "dazzling the English football world with his prodigious talent"
Although he hadn't played a professional game Raheem had already done enough to convince the then Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez in February
2010 to shell out an initial 600k for the winger / striker but this could rise to as much 5 million depending on add-ons.
It took him 2 years to make his competitive debut for the red's which came on 24th February when he came off the bench in the 2 all draw with
Wigan athletic to become Liverpool's second youngest player ever at 17 years 107 days, he went on to make further 2 more substitute appearances that season against Fulham & Chelsea.
Raheem though has really started to make an impact under Liverpool's new boss Brendan Rodger's in the 2012/13 season, Raheem made his European debut this season replacing Joe Cole against Gomel in the Europa league, his first competitive start for Liverpool came again in the Europa league this time it was in the away leg against hearts, he quickly followed this up with a 1st premier league start against the defending champions Manchester City in a 2 all draw at Anfield.
It's not just domestically Raheem has impressed either, the lad had already represented England at under 16's & under 17's but in a recent interview Raheem has indicated that he still could end up playing for the reggae boys and not England "When it comes to that decision, that is when I will decide but if Jamaica calls for me, why not"
This is already proving to be one of the most crucial seasons in this young boys development, this along with Liverpool's decision to allow Andy Carroll out on loan to West ham for the without a direct replacement coming in, these next 5 months are massive for Sterling and also possibly Liverpool Football Club!!!!!
