David P Perlmutter

Picture
Today I am doing an interview with David P Perlmutter the author of the fantastic book “Wrong Place, Wrong Time” which is the real life account of David a former high flying London property agent who had it all good job, Good car & lovely apartment who after a late night incident started a chain reaction of events that changed his life forever.

Firstly I would like to thank you David for agreeing to do this interview for
www.iwannabeadored.weebly.com
I can imagine that am not the 1st person who after reading your fantastic book is keen to hear more about the events surrounding the book.

If it’s ok with you I would like to go back to London and the event that started it all really?

* So David after you lost your job why did you decide on Spain and more importantly Marbella as the place to try and re build your life?
Spain was popular then, it was a cheap place to, I had been there before. Marbella was the in place and I fancied a visit.

* Why did you choose Marbella considering that it already had a reputation as “The Costa Del Crime” and of being the playground of British gangsters at that time?
Good question. I guess I just got carried away with what I heard of the place.

* Considering your recent scrape with the English Law how did your parents react to telling them were you intended on spending your summer?  Where your parents concerned that you might mix with some unsavoury characters there?
They wanted me to be happy, they saw how I was feeling, feeling low, but they were concerned. To be honest, I didn’t think that what happen, would!

* When you arrived is sunny Spain how sure where you that you had made the right decision to get away from the past and start a new chapter of your life in Viva espane?
I wasn’t completely sure but once landed, with the weather, the beaches and the surroundings, it felt right!

* After your incident with the brothers and you subsequent fall out where you ever tempted to confront Kelvin and set the record straight?
I knew that if I did, he would continue to be confrontational. I am not a fighter at all. So I never thought about setting the record straight.

* Did you honestly really struggle to find work out there or was there a part of you thinking “mañana” (tomorrow)?
I did struggle, I looked a mess, no confidence. I thought something may turn up but nothing did in the work factor.

* In those early days of not having money / food , how temped where you to just say sod it and go home?
Very tempted, but due to being a stubborn person and keeping my pride, I thought I would see what developed.

* To that fateful night looking back on your decision to enter the hotel, if the situation arose again would you do it again?
Yes. May sound strange, but yes.

* After you were arrested and charged with Arson and attempted murder, how disappointed were you with the attempts of the British government to get you out of there, especially
as if it had happened now I am pretty certain the level publicity would force the government to intervene?
I was lost, I had no one apart from the reporter Paul to help. I trusted him. If it was now, well maybe a different story.

* At any stage did you ever believe that one of the people you saved would stand up for you and at least fight your corner for you?
That did cross my mind, it still does, but the police didn’t want to hear about that.

* Did Rosa or Claire ever try and contact you or at least confirm to the Spanish police that you where with at the party most of that night?
Again that did cross my mind but maybe they did try, but were not taken seriously. I don’t know or maybe they just washed their hands with me.

* When you first met Paul did you believe he would ever sell you down river for his own personal means seems that he’s a journalist and as we know most journalists would sell
their own granny for a front page scoop?
I was cautious but had no choice but to trust him.

* In the book you don’t mention the newspaper that Paul worked for, how tempted were you to mention it in the book?  Do you fancy naming
it to us?
I was very tempted. There were many papers whom had the story, I prefer not to, maybe on the quiet to you Matthew.

* When you where released did you not try to contact Rosa for help? Considering the trouble you where in I thought you would have welcomed a friendly face?
I felt ashamed and to be honest, all I wanted was to get home.

* When you arrived home in those 1st few weeks how tempted where you to hand yourself in? Or even set the record straight yourself?
I was very tempted BUT as I didn’t cause the fire etc, I thought leave it. May have been the wrong choice but it was mine.

* In the years that passed what did you do for work?
I got back into Estate Agency.

* Did you ever consider tracking down Paul?
 No.

* Considering how that night totally changed your life what sort of effect did it have on your family relationship? It did put a strain on the relationship?
My mother is normally a calm beautiful person BUT she was ashamed of what happen. Our name was in all the papers and people were talking about her son. They still
do.

* Since the book was released and you have finally been able to tell your story in your own words, how has your life changed?
It’s like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. The book is selling very well and receiving great reviews. I am not an author, this is my first book, so some people may not like it and some do. I wrote it to tell my story.

* Have you been approached regarding a possible movie of your story? If so who would you like to play David?
I have had some interest yes, that’s a difficult questions. Must of course be handsome..lol……Maybe, I don’t know Robert Pattison? I am bald now, but back then I had hair, so must be someone with hair!

Thanks again David for agreeing to take some time out to do this interview just one more question,

* Are you planning on writing a sequel to “wrong place, wrong time” ?
You are welcome and some cracking questions. There is something in the pipeline. Watch this space.
