Next up is a thriller called Assassins list by Scott Matthews which is the fist book in a series of Adam Drake novels. Assassins list is set in Portland and centres around the war on terror that unless you've been living in a bubble for the last 15/20 years you've probably heard all about but what make this book different from some of the other fictional books that I have read on the subject of terrorism is that assassins list focuses on the war on terror at home which is becoming an increasingly frightening situation the world finds itself in.
Attorney Adam Drake is asked by his late wife’s father Senator Hazleton if he can help a friend Richard Martin investigate the mysterious death of an employee Janice Lewellyn at the Martin Research a company, Martin Research has a contract to produce a chemical weapon for the U.S government but the death of the employee is somewhat suspicious as the security system was disabled shortly before the death and only two people have the code Martin Research head of security Sam Newman and the firm that looks after there security contract an Executive security provider called ISIS. Drake isn't just any attorney though he has Special Forces background and it’s not long before he has to put his well trained skills back to work. Drake instantly becomes a target himself as his snooping around ISIS soon uncovers some suspicious activity involving the security contractors and their apparent links to a major South American drug cartel.
Drake uncovers a Home based terror cell that has the assassination of the secretary of state as it next target in it’s’ war against the infidels, Drake has to enlist the help of a former special forces partner to try and foil the terror cell.
Assassins List is a fast paced thriller that leaves you on the edge of your seat, this is a well written thriller that could very much be made in to a Hollywood blockbuster. It’s also worth mentioning that this is part of a series of novels so keep an eye out as I am definitely planning on reading “Oath to defend” which is the second book in the Adam Drake series.
