The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
The girl with the dragon tattoo staring Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Robin Wright, Christopher Plummer & Stellan Skarsgard is the hollywood remake of the 2009 Swedish movie of the same name based on the excellent trilogy of novels by the Swedish author Stieg Larrson.
The 2009 version was directed by Danish director Niels Arden Oplev and stars Michael Nyqvist and Nioomi Rapace as the films two main protagonists, unlike the remake the original is filmed entirely in scandinavian and is subtitled with English but I must add as part of the Blu-ray version the movie does allow the film to be viewed with a slightly delayed English language overdub but I feel this takes away from the actors / actresses performances and if you can get to grips with the subtitles you find yourself forgetting your watching a foreign movie before you know it.
Back the 2011 remake and the fact that the movie is in English makes for a more enjoyable watch, I say this because you find yourself seeing more of what's happening then just reading subtitles, David Fincher directs this version and if your not familiar with his work he directed titles such as Fight Club, Aliens 3
and the game. Daniel Craig is really good as Mikael Blomqvist and although Rooney Mara is good as Lisbeth Slander I think that Rapace captures the confused and somewhat troubled Slander better.
The movie centres around Blomqvist and Slanders quest to discover the facts behind the disappearance of a young girl name Harriet who is the great niece of a wealthy patriarch named Henrik Vagner, the quest takes them on a dangerous path of distraction asthe uncover some unsavoury facts about members of the
Vagner family that some people will do anything to ensure they remain quiet.
The film is 2hrs 38 mins long which these days isn't neciserrily long but at times it can be hard to concentrate thoroughly but if you manage to then am sure you won't be disappointed, the film also manages to recreate one of the stand out scenes in the movie where Lisbeth is entrusted under the care of Niljs Burgman without giving too much away Fincher has captured the scene fantastically with out loosing any of the shock factor.
Overall this movie is great even if your not a fan of Craig don't miss out on this wonderfully movie, I just hope they next two movies keep the same cast / director to help make thee 3 movies masterpieces.
