If you love Sci-fi movies then you'll love my next movie Enders
Game, based on the novel by Orson Scott Card the movie tells the story of Ender
a young boy who is trained to be earths last hope against an alien invader.
Set in the future earth was attacked by a species called the Formics but where defeated when a hero named Mazer Rackem defeat the aliens by downing there mother ship but as effects of the invasion have left earth worried that the invaders will once again try to attack the planet. The international fleet believe that earths beat chance of survival lies with the people who have the most to lose, the children. The international fleet are watching the children for sign of a leader a warrior and hero which the commander responsible for recruitment Colonel Hyrum Graff who watches a young boy display the qualities that could make him earths saviour, the boy Ender Wiggins is told he hasn't made it through as a ploy to see how reacts to rejection viciously beats a school bulling who has been bullying him for a while. Major Graff enlists Ender in the battle school where he joins the other launchies and soon Ender is making himself stand out from the rest of the launchies. Enders lead ship qualities soon shine through where his natural leadership abilities soon emerge and it isn't long before Enders leading his launchie colleagues against teams of other students in battle school to win the place as the international fleets commander against the Formic invasion. During a training mind game Ender sees familiar faces in his game that leaves Ender puzzled. Ender is troubled and when he violently beats one of his rivals Ender drops out of battle school much to Graffs disappointment big with the aid of Enders sister Valentine Ender is persuaded to re-enlist where his is taken to a former Formic colony by Graff to prepare for the final stages of his training. The film has a brilliant climax (that I won't spoil). If you love Sci-fi then you'll love this film in fact It reminds me of a film I grew up watching many years ago, no not Star Wars although it's worth mentioning I did grow up watching it I mean The Last Star fighter and yes I am that old! There is some brilliant performances for Harrison Ford (Graff), Asa Butterfield as Ender Wiggins, Ben Kingsley plays Mazer Rackem and another cracking performance is by Nonso Anonzi as Sargent Dap who reminds me of a children's versions of the drill Sargent from full metal jacket. Overall this film is brilliant well-acted and the effects are stellar (no pun intended), I haven't read the book but I can imagine that the movie is true to the book. |
