The Hunger Games (book)
Wow where do I start with this one?
I seen the trailer a few months back for the movie adaptation without really knowing much about well if am honest I knew fuckall about The hunger Games books (trilogy) and thought the film looked really good. Saying
that I still managed to miss it on the big screen and I still haven’t watched it yet so I am frantically waiting for the Blu – Ray release date so I can pre order my copy. Anyway I finally decided to down load the book (kindle version) and once I started reading it I literally couldn’t put it down, I even found my myself reading it on my breaks in work using the very good Iphone 4s kindle app which if you have a kindle and Iphone you 100% need this app.
The book is a futuristic love tale very much in the twilight mould of Boy fancies Girl, girl fancies other boy you know the rest but don’t be fooled by this lads because this book is a fast paced adventure that leaves you wondering what twists and turns await with each turn of the page.
Every year the country of Panem a post apocalyptic version of north America highlights a failed rebellion by a district (13), each of the country’s 12 other districts are forced to send 1 boy and 1 girl to appear in The hunger Games a televised show where each “Tribute” has to fight to the death to become the last on standing and winning freedom for themselves. There is plenty of action and some very gory death scenes that I can’t wait to see in the film version. The book follows the story of the games for districts 12’s Katniss Evergreen a 16 year old girl who is her families main source of food since the death of her father some years earlier, when her young sister is chosen to participate in the games Katniss unselfishly nominates herself to take her young sisters place and thrusts her into the horrific and dangerous Hunger Games.
This book is such a good read I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Sci-fi. Check out this and the other 2 books in the trilogy By American author Suzanne Collins Catching Fire & Mockingjay.
If you liked this i would also highly recommend “The Road”by Cormac McCarthy another tales of post apocalyptic America.
