Fans of my website will of no doubt of seen my review of Calvin Wade's
brilliant football book "Another Saturday and Sweet F.A" about his
dream to watch a team at the start of the FA Cup and follow the winner of the
tie / each round all the way to the final. Well the following season fresh from
the previous seasons exploits Calvin and his new friend Alan Oliver Aka
"The Ground Hopper" have decided on a new challenge, well that's not
strictly true they have come up with 2 new challenges 2014/15 season to choose
a team in the FA Trophy preliminary rounds and follow the winner of the tie all
the way to the final and then in 2015/16 so the same with the FA vase.
Any way this book is the story of the 2014/15 season the book is called "Brutal Giants & The Village King" (A Ferriby Fairytale) (Another Saturday and Sweet FA) wow what a mouthful I will just refer to it as "Brutal Kings" the book starts with Alan’s choice Warrington town's tie at home to Moseley purely based on its central location to both Calvin & Alan but as you may have probably already guessed from the title these two teams don't end up being the teams the duo follow to Wembley at the end of FA trophy journey they end up follow a village team by the name of North Ferriby. The book takes a different turn for the first book as it becomes a tale of the minnows defying all the odds and getting to the final of the Trophy, the only questions is can they go all the way or will they fall at the final hurdle? As the adventure continues from round to round the duo find themselves being drawn more & more into the fortunes of North Ferriby and by the end of the book becoming fan’s although there is a lot of debate on whether a true fan can support more than one team in my opinion no but they can have a soft spot for another club though normally through circumstances, ok maybe Calvin & Alan aren't’t fans of North Ferriby they just have grown to have a soft spot for the East Yorkshire village team only they can answer that question. Am sure Calvin Wade wouldn't’t thank me if I spoiled his book on here so the only way to find out is to put your hand in your pocket and purchase this well written brilliant, funny football tale that’s worth reading just for that alone then thrown into the mix money from the sale of the book like the previous “sweet FA” book goes towards Alan’s fundraising for Manchester’s Christie Hospital. |
