Battleship
When a film is based loosely and when I say loosely on a bestselling board game from Hasbro that was originally released in 1967 by Milton Bradley then you expect not too like it at all but I have to say when I watched Battleship I was really really surprised.
The film is set In the pacific where NASA is using a satellite to communicate with a solar system that has similar life sustaining properties as earth what happens is far more than they had bargained for when the Earth is invaded by machines far more technologically advanced then our own military hardware.
The film follows Alex Hooper (Taylor Kitsch) who is a wayward character who is a pain in the backside of his older brother who is trying tirelessly to keep Alex out of trouble but when Alex falls for Sam Shane (Brooklyn Decker) who is the admiral’s daughter, Alex is made to enrol for the Navy. Forward a few years Alex a lieutenant on board USS John Paul Jones an Arleigh Burke class destroyer that is taking part in a naval training exercise out in the Pacific Ocean when the invasion happens the navy sends ships to investigate the site of the invasion some of the ships are isolated inside a field set up by the Aliens and as they set about destroying the naval threat.
Alex witnesses his brothers ship being destroyed along with other stranded ships leaving only Alex's ship along with the enemy vessels, Alex teams up with
captain Nagata of the Japanese navy who's shit was also destroyed and they set about using blind tactics to destroy the enemy by turning off their radar systems and using grid references and buoys to locate the enemy ships (this is a reference to the board game), the aliens are using the original contact dishes by pearl harbour to send back a message to their planet to start the invasion. Nagata and Hooper have to destroy the dishes before the aliens can communicate with their planet.
This movie is an action packed roller coaster ride that is a cross between transformers, aliens& Das Boot with a decent cast starring Liam Neeson, Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Rihanna, Brooklyn Decker, Tadanobu Asano.
