Prenton Park is 100 years Old
Prenton park recently celebrated 100 years of being the home of Tranmere Rovers FC so I Thought I would share my Prenton park memory.
My memory is a simpleone really it’s the game that converted me to SWA, being brought up by an exiled scouser TRFC wasn’t my dad’s first choice of Merseyside teams to support so this makes this game even more memorable for me
The game was Tranmere Rovers v Bristol City on a Friday night 29th September 1989 in league division three, I was the first time my parents allowed me to go the game without my dad in tow, along with all my school mates off I went to PP for the 1st time, i remember standing on the old cowshed packed behind the goal having the usual banter with my mates waiting for the game to kick off.
Once the game kicked off i couldn’t in my wildest dreams ever imagined how that 90 minute match would impact my life as a football supporter.
The game was an absolute cracker for Tranmere in terms of the score considering it was against a team that went on to finish the season promoted, the score was TRFC 6 – Bristol City 0, I can’t remember the scorers now although i think Eddie bishop got a couple off the bench & I
think big Jim steel got 1.
In terms of the season it was one of the 2 consecutive season we went to the capital for the end of season double headers of Play Off final & Football trophy (Leyland Daf) finals.
I left the ground simply mesmerised by the way they attacked and scored, i have to say the football we played under Johhny King was
simply the best attacking football i have ever seen us play. From that Friday night onwards was the beginning of my love affair with TRANMERE ROVERS.
