Next up is a remake of the 1984 classic action war movie RED DAWN which seen America invaded by the Cold War enemy at the time mother Russia if your old enough to remember the original you'll remember that it started a very young Patrick Swayze & Thomas C Howell as teenagers trying to fight back against the Russian invaders and save their home town Spokane.
This remake follow the same story line although the Russian have been replaced with the latest threat to America NORTH KOREA, the remake see's Chris Hemsowrth (star trek, Thor) as a US marine Jed Eckert who has returned home to Spokane Seattle from Iraq to see his family when one night a blackout falls across the region the next morning Jed and his bother are suddenly awoken by a series of bangs and when then venture outside they see the sky filled with planes and soldiers parachuting to earth the pair set off to find their father who is the towns sheriff and who tells the boys and a few of the towns teenagers to hole up in the woods in a cabin out the way but a power struggle ensues between Jed and Pete, Pete eventually sells the group out and leads the commander of the Korean invaders to the cabin along with the towns mayor and the boys father who is subsequently shot by Captain Cho when he tell his boys not to surrender to the enemy and to fight them to the death.
The group are pushed further and further into the woods but they keep coming back and attacking the invading forces showing the Koreans that America may be under threat but the spirit will never be crushed. The group along with some former soldiers who are part of a bigger resistance set out to capture a radio which is the Koreans means of communicating with each other and essentially would prove vital for the defenders in their quest. What ensues is a thrilling battle between both sides.
Is this movie better than the original? It's hard to say as if you were a youngster back in 1984 then you'll probably predate the original but if you are a fan of the console games medal of honour or call of duty then this version is probably more for you.
One other note I must add I thought the ending could of been better IMO the film doesn't really close out with a thrilling climax as I expected but maybe that was the intention for this film all along.
